DURATION : 40 MINUTES
LESSSON OUTLINE :
Activity 1  What's in the title?
1.      Guide all students to talk about the title, 'Changing Times'.
2.      Ask the following questions to elicit responses from the students:
◦  What does the title, 'Changing Times' mean?
◦  Why do you think times have changed?

Activity 2  Same Yet Different!
1.      Guide all students to talk about the pictures on how things have evolved over time with the advancement of science and technology.
2.             Draw all students' attention to the pictures.  Get them to name the things, talk about the similarities and difference and how they have evolved over time by asking the following questions.
•       What do you see in the pictures?
•       How have things changed over time?
•       Which do you prefer? Why?
•       How are they the same but different?
•       Why do you think the things have changed over time?

Activity 3  Good or Bad?
1.      Lead all students to discuss the changes that they see in the pictures by asking the following questions.
•       What are the changes that you see in your home, school or town?
•       Why do you think things have changed over time?
•       Do you think change is good or bad? Why?
•       Do you think these changes affect your life?  How?

DURATION : 40 MINUTES
LESSSON OUTLINE :
Activity 1  What Am I?
1.      Get students to look at the pictures on the page. Ask the following questions.
•       Name the objects that you see in Picture 1.
•       Name the objects that you see in Picture 2.
•       Which picture shows the objects that we use now? Why?
•       What are the objects that we see in the past that are still used now?

Activity 2  Listen and Say Aloud
1.      Play the Audio-Video DVD to allow students to listen to and practise saying aloud the targeted vocabulary.
2.      Pause after each picture to allow all students to internalise targeted vocabulary.
3.      Ensure that all students participate actively.   Replay if necessary.

Activity 3  Compare Me!
1.             Get students to work in pairs and compare both pictures.  Guide students to talk about what is similar and different about the objects in both pictures by asking each other the following questions:
•       What are the objects that are the same in the past and the present?  How are they the same?
•       What are the objects that are different?  How are they different?
•       Which do you prefer?  Give reasons for your answers.

1.              To learn the sentence patterns for expressing an opinion and agreeing with an opinion.
2.              To practise using the targeted sentence patterns
DURATION : 80 MINUTES
LESSSON OUTLINE :
Activity 1  Into the Future!
1.      Draw students' attention to the page.
2.      Get all students to predict what the video is about by asking the following questions:
◦  What do you see on this page?
◦  What do you think this video is about?
3.      Play the audio-video DVD.  Get students to watch the video.

Activity 2  Pause and Practise
1.      Play the audio-video DVD and pause at the following sentence patterns:
•       Yes, I think … (Expressing an opinion)
•       So do I.  (Agreeing with an opinion)
2.             At every pause, teacher initiates discussion. The discussion is to help students see and be made aware of the sentence patterns used for expressing an opinion and agreeing with an opinion. Teacher also introduces other sentence patterns in English used to express an opinion and agree or disagree with an opinion.
3.             Encourage the use of the targeted sentence patterns by getting students to respond to the situations in the video.  Pause at the following statements made by Zak and ask the following questions.
Statement 1:   … our planet is getting hotter and the air that we breathe is getting dirtier.
Questions:
•       Do you think the earth is getting hotter and the air is getting dirtier?
•       What do you think we should do?
4.      Ensure that all students participate actively.  Replay and pause if necessary.

LESSSON OUTLINE :
Activity 1  Look and Share
1.             Draw students' attention to the page on Language in Use which shows how things have evolved with the advancement of science and technology.
2.             Use Picture 1 on the page and carry out the activity on “Look and Share”.  Get students to practise asking and answering the following questions. Teacher models the task.
Example:
•       Can you tell me what you see in Picture 1?
•       What are the names of the objects?
•       Which object do you prefer? Why?
3.      Get students to work in pairs.  Students look at the pictures and share what they see.
4.      Invite students to share with the class and give their views.

Activity 2  Gather and Report (B3DL2E2)
1.             Get students to interview their friends and gather information on technological advancements that they see around them and talk about how these have improved their lives.  Students are encouraged not to write down any of the information.
2.      Guide students to ask and answer the following questions:
•       What is one technological advancement that you see around you?
•       Why do you think this is happening?
•       How has this changed / improved your life?
3.      Invite all students to share their findings with the class.

Activity 2  Show and Tell
1.      Get students to sit in a semi-circle and take turns to show and tell.
2.             Encourage other students to ask questions during the show and tell session.  (This is to ensure that all students are actively involved during the show and tell.)

1.      Draw students' attention to the picture.
2.      Ask the following questions:
•       What is Innovation Day?
•       When is Innovation Day?
•       What do you see in this picture?
3.      Lead and encourage students to make a choice on an invention that they would like to make with their friends.
4.      Get students to work in groups, discuss and plan their presentations.

Activity 2  Create and Share (B3DL2E2)
1.      Invite students to present and share their inventions with the class.
2.      Guide students in presenting their inventions to the class:
•       Greet the teacher and friends.
•       Introduce group members
•       Name the inventions
•       Describe the invention (size, shape, colour, and materials used to make it)
•       Talk about the uses / functions of the invention
3.      Invite other group members to respond to the presentation and to ask questions about the invention.
Example:
•       Why did you choose this invention?
•       How much time did you need to create this invention?
•       How did you divide the work among your group members?
4.      Ensure all groups get the opportunity to present their inventions.
