DURATION : 40 MINUTES
LESSSON OUTLINE :
Activity 1  What's in the Title?              
1.      Guide all students to talk about the title, "Healthy Eating".
2.      Ask the following questions:
◦  What does the title, “Healthy Eating” mean?
◦  What is healthy food?
◦  What kinds of food do you eat to be healthy?

Activity 2  A Balanced Diet
1.      Draw students' attention to the pictures.
2.      Asks students the following questions:
     What do you see in the picture?
     What are the food items in the picture?

Activity 3 A Healthy Diet - Proportions
1.      Direct students' attention to the picture again.
2.      Lead all students to discuss the proportions shown in the picture
3.      Ask students the following questions:
•       What type of food should you eat the most?
•       What type of food should you eat less?
4.      Teacher guides students to talk about their favourite food.
Teacher models the question and answer.
Example:
Question: What is your favourite food? Answer: My favourite food is chicken.
5.      Teacher asks students at random the above question.
Students answer according to the model.
6.      Teacher tells students to go around the class and ask at least five friends their favourite food.
7.      Teacher tells students to also identify at least two friends who like the same food as themselves.
Teacher models the question and answer.
Example:
Question:  I like (curry mee).  Do you like (curry mee), too? Answer: Yes, I like curry mee, too / No, I do not like curry mee.

LESSSON OUTLINE :
Activity 1  Name The Food Items
1.      Get students to look at the picture.
2.      Ask students the following questions:
•       What do you see in this picture?
•       Can you tell me the meat dishes in the picture?
•       Can you name other types of meat dishes?
•       Can you tell me the vegetable dishes that you see in the picture?
•       Can you name other vegetable dishes?
•       What types of fruits do you see in the picture?
•       What desserts do you see in the picture?

Activity 2  Listen and Say Aloud the Food Items
1.      Play the Audio-Video DVD to allow students to listen to and practise saying aloud the food items.
2.      Pause after each food item to allow all students to internalise the targeted vocabulary.
3.      Ensure that all students participate actively.  Replay if necessary.

Activity 3  Ask Around
1.      Instruct students to interview at least five people in the room about their favourite food based on the stimulus.
2.      Remind students that they must use the sentence structures learned in the previous lesson.
3.      Now, instruct students to form two circles (an inner and an outer circle), facing each other  (fish bowl technique).

LESSSON OUTLINE :
Activity 1  Food Classes
1.      Draw students' attention to the picture.
2.      Get all students to predict what the video is about by asking the following questions:
•       What do you se on this page?
•       What do you think this video is about?
3.      Play the audio-video DVD.  Get students to watch the video.

Activity 2  Pause and Practise
1.      Play the audio-video DVD and pause to ask the following questions:
     Q: What are carbohydrates?
A:  Carbohydrates give you energy.
     Q: Why are carbohydrates important?
A:  Carbohydrates are important because they give you energy.
     Q: Where are they found?
A:  Carbohydrates are found in bread.
     Q:  Do you eat food with carbohydrates?
A: Yes, I eat food with carbohydrates.
     Q: When do you eat them?
A:  I eat carbohydrates/bread for breakfast.
     Q:  Give two examples of proteins.
A: Two examples of protein are chicken and fish.
     Q: Why do we need proteins?
A:  Proteins help you build muscles.
2.             At every pause, teacher initiates discussion. The discussion is to help students see and be made aware of the sentence patterns used to give factual information on classes of food.
3.      Get students to respond or retell the situations in the video at the pauses selected to encourage the use of the sentence patterns.
4.      Ensure that all students participate actively.  Replay and pause if necessary.

LESSSON OUTLINE :
Activity 1  Eating Out
1.      Get students to talk about the different types of restaurants around them.
2.      Ask students the following questions:
     Can you tell me the types of restaurants that you know?
     What type of restaurant do you like to go to?
     What kinds of food do they serve in that restaurant?
3.      Guide students to use the sentence patterns learned.

Activity 2  What Shall I Eat?
1.      Draw students' attention to the picture on a menu.
2.      Ask students the following questions:
•       What do you see in this picture?
•       What are the food items on the menu?
•       What are the starters in the menu?
•       What are the main courses in the menu?
3.      Students imagine they are in a restaurant.
4.      In pairs, students discuss what they would like to order for each section.  Encourage students to choose the healthy options.

Suggested questions:
•       What would you like to order for a starter?
•       What would you like to order for the main course?
•       What vegetable dish would you like to order?
•       What dessert would you like to order?
•       What drink would you like to order?
5.      Invite all students to share with the class what they would like to eat at the restaurant and say why.

Activity 3  May I take your order?
1.      Get students to work in groups of four.
2.      One student plays the role of a waiter while the rest of the group play the role of customers in a restaurant.
3.      Customers give their orders to the waiter.
4.      Waiter repeats the orders of each of the customers.

3.      What does he eat for breakfast?
4.      Can you tel me the types of food that people have for breakfast?
5.      What does the boy eat for lunch?
6.      What do you eat for lunch?
7.      What does the boy have for dinner?
8.      What do you eat for dinner?
3.             Lead and encourage students to talk about healthy and unhealthy food eaten for breakfast, lunch and dinner to prepare them to make choices for a healthy meal plan
4.      Ask the following questions.
•       What types of food are healthy?
•       What types of food are unhealthy?

Activity 2  Let Me Tell You
1.      Get students to sit in a circle and take turns to tell their classmates their meal plans and give reasons for their choices.
2.      Guide students to ask the following questions.
•       What do you eat for breakfast?
•       What time do you have breakfast?
•       What do you eat for lunch?
•       What time do you have lunch?
•       What do you eat for dinner?
•       What time do you have dinner?
3.      Teacher encourages students to use the vocabulary and sentence patterns learned earlier.
4.             Encourage every student to ask questions during this activity. This is to ensure that all students are actively involved druing the sharing session.

DURATION : 80 MINUTES
LESSSON OUTLINE :
Activity 1  Create and Design
1.      Draw students' attention to the picture.
2.      Ask the following questions:
•       What do you see in the picture?
•       What are the students doing?
3.      Tell students that they are going to open a new restaurant.
4.      Get students to work in groups of five.
5.      The groups must decide on the types of restaurants they want to open.
6.            In groups, students create and design a menu to be used in their restaurants. The menu should reflect the type of restaurants they have chosen.
7.      In groups, students create and design their menu. The menu should consist of food that promotes healthy eating.
8.      Tell students that they can only write words for the following:
•       starters
•       main course
•       vegetables
•       desserts
•       drinks
All dishes must be presented in pictorial form.

Activity 2  Stage It!
1.      Invite all students to share and talk about their restaurants.
•       Introduce the name of the restaurant.
•       Tell what type of restaurant it is.
•       Describe the dishes in the menu
•       Give reasons why the dishes were chosen for the menu
2.      Get students to vote on the best presentation and give reasons for their choice.
3.      Ensure all groups get the opportunity to share.
Suggested activity:
1.      Teacher selects one student from each group to be in the panel of judges.
2.      Teacher tells/discusses with the students the criteria for judging.
3.      The panel judges the presentations of all the groups.
4.      The panel scores and discusses the winner.
5.      The judges take turns to explain their choice of the winners
