DURATION : 40 MINUTES
LESSSON OUTLINE :
Activity 1  What's in the Title?
1.      Guide all students to talk about the title, "Safe and Sound".
2.      Ask the following questions:
◦  What does the title, “Safe and Sound” mean?
◦  How do you make sure you are safe when you are coming to school?

Activity 2  Road Signs
1.      Draw all students' attention to the road signs in the stimulus.
2.      Get students to name the road signs.

Activity 3  Road Signs Around Us
1.      Lead all students to discuss the road signs they have seen or come across.
2.      Guide students to name and describe the road signs.

Activity 4  Individual Responses to Road Signs
1.      Encourage all students to talk about the road signs in their housing areas, around the school and in their towns.
2.      Ask the following questions to elicit responses:
•       What are the road signs around your housing area?
•       What are the road signs in your town?
•       Can you name the road signs near the school?

3.              To pronounce the targeted vocabulary
DURATION : 40 MINUTES
LESSSON OUTLINE :
Activity 1  Name the Road Signs
1.      Get students to look at the road signs on the page.
2.      Ask students the following question
•       What are the road signs on this page?

Activity 2  Listen and Say Aloud the Road Signs
1.      Play the Audio-Video DVD to allow students to listen and practise saying aloud the road signs.
2.      Pause after each road sign to allow all students to internalise the targeted vocabulary.
3.      Ensure that all students participate actively.  Replay if necessary.

Activity 3  Guess the Road Signs
1.             Divide the class into four groups to play this guessing game. This game requires the teacher to give three marks for every correct answer a group gives.
2.      Now, play the Audio-Video DVD and randomly select the road signs.
3.             Each member of the group takes turn to give the correct answer for the road sign.  For a correct answer given the first time, the group gets 3 marks. When the member in the group does not know the answer, another group member is allowed to help.  If the answer given by the other group member is correct, the group gets 1 mark.

2.     To practise the sentence patterns related to road safety
DURATION : 80 MINUTES
LESSSON OUTLINE :
Activity 1  Right or Wrong?
1.      Draw students' attention to the pictures.
2.      Get students to talk about the pictures by asking the following questions:
◦  What do you see in Picture 1?
◦  What do you see in Picture 2?
◦  What do you see in Picture 3?
◦  What do you see in Picture 4?
3.      Play the audio-video DVD.  Get students to watch the slides and listen to the sentence patterns.

Activity 2  Pause and Practise (B3DL2E1)
1.      Play the audio-video DVD and pause at the following sentence patterns:
     Ming Leong is cycling in front of a car.
Ask the following questions:
     What will happen to Ming Leong?
     When you cycle on the road, what must you do?
2.      Pause at the sentence patterns that need to be highlighted to the students and get students to talk about safe and unsafe road practices.
3.      Questions asked must allow students to use the sentence patterns in their answers.
Pause after Situation 1. Ask the following questions:
     What advice would you give to Ali and Azman?
     Where can they play?
Pause after Situation 2. Ask the following questions:
     What advice would you give to Ming Leong?
     What other safety precautions should Ming Leong take?
     Where else can you cross the road safely?
4.      Ensure that all students participate actively.  Replay and pause if necessary

LESSSON OUTLINE :
Activity 1  Look and Share
1.      Draw students' attention to the picture.
2.             Get students to work in pairs.  Students look at the picture and share what they see in the picture pertaining to road safety with their partners.
3.      Remind and encourage students to use the sentence patterns learned.  Model the structure if necessary.
Example:
4.      Invite all students to share with the class. Talk about safe and unsafe practices on the road.

Activity 2  Gather and Report
1.             Get students to talk to their friends and gather as many situations on the do's and don'ts of road safety in ten minutes.  Students are not allowed to write down any of the information.
2.      Invite all students to share their findings with the class.
Other suggested activities:
1.      Get students to gather and report on the following:
     Home safety rules
     School safety rules
     Other safety rules (example:  rules to follow when using electrical appliances)

1.  Get students to sit in a semi-circle and take turns to show and tell.
2.  Encourage other students to ask questions during the show and tell sessions.

3.      Lead and encourage students to make a choice on a scene/situation that they want to stage.
4.      Get students to work in groups and plan their presentations.
5.      Remind students that they cannot read from the scripts when they stage their presentations.

Activity 2  Stage It
1.      Invite students to share their presentations.
2.      Get students to vote on the best presentation and give reasons for their choice.
3.      Ensure all groups get the opportunity to stage their presentations
