LESSSON OUTLINE :
Activity 1  What's in the Title?
1.      Guide all students to talk about the title, "Caring and Sharing".
2.      Ask students the following questions:
◦  What does the word, “caring” mean?
◦  What does the word, “sharing” mean?
Extended activity:
◦  Talk about how you can be caring towards your:
▪  Family members
▪  Friends
▪  Neighbours

Activity 2  A Kind Deed
1.      Draw students' attention to the pictures.
2.      Ask the following questions:
     What do you see in the pictures?
     What is the boy doing?
     How can you show care towards people who need help?

DURATION : 40 MINUTES
LESSSON OUTLINE :
Activity 1  Helping Out!
1.      Get students to look at the pictures.
2.      Ask the following questions:
     What do you see in the pictures?
     What are the people doing in the pictures?

Activity 2  Listen and Say Aloud
1.             Play the Audio-Video DVD to allow students to listen and practise saying aloud the targeted vocabulary related to the topic on caring and sharing.
2.      Pause after each picture to allow all students to internalise the targeted vocabulary.
3.      Ensure that all students participate actively.  Replay if necessary.

Activity 3  Who Can I Help?
1.      Ask students to look at the pictures again.
2.      Point to the pictures and say aloud the actions of the people in the pictures.
Example:
•       Donating blood
•       Helping the poor
•       Feeding the sick
•       Helping the blind
•       Helping the disabled
3.      Get students to work in pairs and say aloud the situation s in the pictures to their partners.
4.      Ensure that all students participate actively.  Replay if necessary.
5.      Replay the Audio-Video DVD if necessary to reinforce the learning of the targeted vocabulary.

1.              To learn the sentence patterns used in an announcement
2.              To practise using the sentence patterns and the vocabulary learned
DURATION : 80 MINUTES
LESSSON OUTLINE :
Activity 1  Helping Hands!
1.      Draw students' attention to the pictures.
2.      Ask students the following questions:
•       What do you see on this page?
•       What do you think this video is about?
3.      Play the audio-video DVD.  Get students to watch the video.

Activity 2  Pause and Practise
Part 1 of the Video Clip
1.      Tell students to listen and find out what the family is talking about.
2.             Play the video.  Repeat the screening of the video when necessary.  Pause where necessary to reinforce the learning of the targeted sentence patterns. Alternately, pause after each speaker has spoken to internalise the language spoken.
3.      Listen to the video.
•       Identify things that the family is going to donate.
•       What is the boy going to donate?
•       Where is he going to donate the items?
•       What is the father going to donate?
•       What is the mother going to donate?
4.      Practise using these sentence patters:
•       Are you going to donate blood?
Yes, I am going to donate blood
5.      Tell students to practise using other items.
Example: old clothes, old furniture, old books, food items, etc.

Activity 3  Lend Me Your Ears
Part 2 of the Video Clip
1.      Play the second part of the video and ask students to listen to the announcements.
2.      Pay attention to these sentence patterns:
•              The community service centre (who) is collecting books (what) for the orphanage (for whom).  If you have any books to donate, drop them at the centre (where) between 9 a.m. and noon every Sunday this month (when).
•       There is a blood donation campaign (what) this Saturday (when) at SMK Sri Mutiara (where) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
(when).
•              The resident of Taman Muda (who) are having a garage sale (what) this Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (when) at the community hall (where).
3.      Get students to respond or retell the situations in the video at the pauses selected to encourage the use of the sentence patterns to
answerWh – questions.
4.      Ensure that all students participate actively.  Replay and pause when necessary.
Suggested activity:
In pairs, students relay the information they heard to their friend.

The video clip is carefully selected to encourage the learning of the sentence patterns on answering Wh-questions in the context of radio announcements.

The pause and paractise stage is necessary to encourage students to acquire the sentence patterns in a non-threatening way.

Activity 1  Things to Donate
1.      Draw students' attention to the pictures.
2.      Ask the following questions:
     What are the things you see on this page?
     Where can we donate these things?
     Who can we donate these things to?
3.             Tell students that they will work in groups of five.  In each group, students brainstorm and talk about the things that they can collect and donate to the needy.
4.      Students take turns to say the things that they want to donate.
5.      Teacher models the sentence patterns to guide students in sharing their ideas in English.
Example:
• I have my mother's clothes.
• I have some story books.

Activity 2  Sharing is Caring
1.      Get students to work in groups of five to look at the pictures again.
2.      Ask students to look at the pictures and decide who would benefit from the items shown in the picture.
3.      Students plan and decide on the distribution of the items to a few organisations.
4.      Guide students to use the following sentence patterns to share their ideas:
•       I can give …
•       I want to donate …
•       I am going to donate …

DURATION : 80 MINUTES
LESSSON OUTLINE :
Activity 1  Good Morning, Malaysia!
1.      Draw students' attention to the picture.
2.      Ask the following questions:
     Who do you think this person is?
     Where do you think he works?
     Can you tell me the names of some radio stations?
     What does a Deejay do?

Activity 2  Calling All Malaysians
1.      Get students to work in groups. Tell students that they are going to make an announcement over the radio.
2.      Tell students they are asking the public/school to donate/contribute items for a charity/organisation.
3.      Get students to decide which organisation they are going to help and decide what items they wan the public/school to donate.
4.      In groups, students plan their oral drafts.  Students select one member of the group to be the announcer/Deejay. The group helps the
Deejay to plan what he/she will say.
5.      Allow students time to practise in their groups.
6.      Students take turns to become Deejays.
Suggested activities:
Bring a recorder and record the announcements given by the students.  Replay the announcements and allow students to give feedback on their announcements.

For further enhancement, make a video recording of students being announcers on a TV channel.  Dress them up in ties and coats, playing the role of a real TV announcer.

Activity 1 We Care!
1.      Draw students' attention to the picture.
2.      Ask students the following questions:
     What do you see in the picture?
     What are the students doing?
3.      Tell students they are going to help an organisation.  Get students to work in groups of five.
4.      Each group must prepare a poster to encourage other students to donate things for the selected organisation.
5.      The poster must include the following:
•       A slogan
•       Pictures to represent the organisation
•       Things to be donated
6.      Students work in groups to complete this activity.  Encourage students to interact in English.

Activity 2  Sharing Time
1.      Invite each group to share their poster.  Each of the group members must share one aspect of the poster.
2.      Ensure all groups get the opportunity to talk about their posters.
3.      Display all the posters in the English Corner in the class.
